What exactly does it mean to vote for or against a guide? Are you voting on content or presentation, or some combination of the 2?

Big-picture, the votes are a way for people to find the most-recommended guides. Guides with lots of up votes are more likely to be featured, and will eventually be listed higher in search rankings.

You're voting on anything the guide author's written, but not the layout (which is common to all guides).
