So I'm having a blast jumping on this thing and checking things out, seeing what I can help with. But that's kind of the problem. Wondering how my services can best be used? I can definitely continue in the "random feedback" fashion I'm currently in, but if there is a priority, or specific things you'd really like me and/or the other Alphas (we sound so cool), I'm just wondering.
I posted some stuff in the Discussion pages of the Content Wiki, is that the kind of stuff you're looking for?
For "wording" changes (getting out of Jeffese), do you just want changes made or post that stuff in the Discussion as well? I definitely don't want to step on anyone's toes, God knows my English isn't spectacular either.
By the way, you'll have to apologize to my 8th graders for the mediocre teaching they're gonna get this month. I heart this! Reply to comment
Alpha power! Or something. This is just my little input from my pre-Alpha days:
- Content wiki stuff: put your input on the discussion page; no changes should be made to the actual wiki content until it has been discussed and agreed upon. - "Random feedback" is an excellent way to start. I'm pretty sure Steven and Jeff will give us tasks once everyone gets familiar with the site; for now, clicking every button and testing out all the features is the best way for finding bugs and suggesting improvements.
In other words, keep doing what you're doing! :) Reply to comment
Random feedback is awesome, although you can actually do more with content as well. The content wiki is a wiki so that we can undo anything that you do. The great thing about this is that you can edit any content you see on the website there and me and Steve will be told about it and can go check it out. This is Jeff's way of parting with supreme control over the content.
If you have edits, whether they are content you think should be added or just styling or editing my work in a way normal people can understand, put it in. If its just an idea for content and not something that you would expect to go live or if it is a controversial idea or something like that, post a discussion about it. Basically, anything that you put on the actual pages of the content wiki, make something you would be happy seeing live.
Also, if you do something and we change it back, don't be offended, just check the discussion page and we can talk about it as a group. If Alpha users think its a good idea and that me and Steve were stupid for getting rid of the information, we can bring it back.
So go, play, turn Jeff content into normal people content and write things we forgot. Reply to comment
Answer your more broad "how can we help best" question, we'll have more info for you tomorrow afternoon/evening.
For the first few days, Jeff and I are mostly looking to understand how you all use the site, see what things don't work for you, or need to be fixed. We've gotten lots of great feedback, and seen new things already, and expect you to keep finding things as you go along.
Jeff and I are meeting tomorrow to go through the alpha plan, and put out a few suggestions of things that are really useful in helping us get the site from here to public launch. High on that list I'm certain is getting the content refined, then polished.
In short, look for a blog from Jeff or I tomorrow afternoon! (and if you want to be notified, add SixLinks Developers as a friend!) Reply to comment
also, as far as your what changes are ok on the wiki, the short answer is "all". If it's controversial or gets reverted, we can all discuss it on the discussion tab, but in general, as long as you're not removing information from a page, edit at will!
While you can expect more from us tonight, I would also like to point out that one of the big things you can do is use the site like a normal person would, so do things like picking a fix to work on. (There might be more badges in it for you, eventually) Reply to comment
If you don't have an account, you'll need one. We recognize that this is a pain, but we do it to keep spambots from flooding the site. If this really bothers, you, please let us know. We're listening!
