So, I'm thinking that maybe it makes sense to split the two into small scale and large scale straight from the beginning. Small scale solar thermal is a lot different from the large scale parabolic troughs used to run generators.
So I would propose the Making Energy Big Picture be split into Single Home Designs and Large Scale Designs Reply to comment
A single source wind, solar, etc will not be able to replace our current energy production system within the next 10-20 years.
A cocktail of all of them may be able to (with nuclear being a large component). So, I would argue that Small-scale systems do have a place in the big picture since personal energy-making systems reduce the loads on public systems.
150 people installing 10kW PV systems on their homes would be roughly equivalent to the installation of 1, 1.5MW wind turbine. And, if you think about it... that's not very many people. Now, the disclaimer is... that if those 150 people all lived in the same community, it would have made a lot more sense for them to have pooled their money together to buy a large 200ft tall, 1.5MW wind generator.
That said, there are many people who are going to install personal systems just because, and no one is going to stop them. The question is... is there a significant number of these renegades to make a Big Picture impact?

Clarifying that the cocktail-of-all-types is the approach we advocate, which is why all of the above (including nuclear) are on the site. Feel free to suggest ways that this could be more clear! Reply to comment
random and off-topic... but I do like cocktails... and surprisingly I've become a fan lately of the redbull vodka... which I know you say tastes like cherry you-know-what... but eh, it's good, not too sugary... what can I say?
As for your reply. Yes, I know we both agree on that approach. In fact, we have probably discussed before. I think it's pretty clear that that is the message portrayed by the Big Picture and I wasn't looking to change anything, just wondering if we could add to it. Reply to comment
Everything is open to feedback, but right now, our priority (since we release the beta in 9 days) is to get the current content prettified and organized.
New sections and additions just aren't going to be feasible in the near term, regardless of merit. (We can save the merit discussion for when we do have time to revisit the issue)
As far as red bull, I do have to clarify that the taste is "raspberry ass". Cherry could never be so cruel. Which reminds me, I should go buy some red bull. Reply to comment

The big picture is looking at large-scale changes that can take things from broken to fixed within a generation. Reply to comment
